Loquent is a product of Opus Automations. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data. This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

By using Loquent (the desktop application, Chrome extension, or website), you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the minimum amount of data necessary to provide and improve Loquent:

• Email Address — Collected when you create an account via Clerk authentication. Used for account management, billing, and important service communications.
• Usage Statistics — Aggregated and anonymized metrics such as word counts, transcription counts, and feature usage. These help us understand how Loquent is used and where we can improve.
• OpenAI API Key — If you provide your own API key, it is stored locally on your device (via electron-store on desktop or chrome.storage in the extension). Your API key is never transmitted to or stored on our servers.

2. Audio Data

Your voice is the core of how Loquent works, and we treat it with the utmost care:

• Audio is captured in real-time from your microphone and streamed directly to OpenAI's Whisper API for transcription.
• Audio is processed entirely in memory. It is never stored, saved to disk, or recorded permanently by Loquent.
• Once a transcription is returned, the audio data is immediately discarded.
• We have no ability to access, replay, or retrieve any audio from your dictation sessions.

3. Third-Party Services

Loquent relies on the following third-party services to function:

• OpenAI — We use OpenAI's Whisper API for speech-to-text transcription and GPT models for AI text cleanup (grammar, punctuation, filler word removal). Audio and text are sent to OpenAI for processing and are subject to OpenAI's Privacy Policy.
• Clerk — Handles user authentication (sign-up, sign-in, session management). Your email and authentication data are managed by Clerk and subject to Clerk's Privacy Policy.
• LemonSqueezy — Processes subscription payments for Loquent Pro. Payment details (credit card, billing address) are handled entirely by LemonSqueezy and are never stored on our servers. See LemonSqueezy's Privacy Policy.

4. Local Storage and Cookies

Loquent stores settings and preferences locally on your device:

• Desktop Application — Uses electron-store to persist settings (language preference, hotkey configuration, AI cleanup toggle, transcription history) locally on your machine.
• Chrome Extension — Uses chrome.storage.local to store extension settings, preferences, and session data.
• Website — May use standard cookies or local storage for authentication sessions and analytics.

We do not use tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies.

5. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Loquent service.
• Manage your account and process payments.
• Send important service-related communications (e.g., billing confirmations, security alerts).
• Analyze aggregated usage patterns to improve features and performance.
• Respond to support requests and feedback.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. Your data is only shared with the third-party service providers listed in Section 3, strictly for the purpose of operating the Loquent service.

We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or government request, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Opus Automations, our users, or the public.

7. Data Retention

• Account Data — Retained for as long as your account remains active. When you delete your account, all associated personal data is permanently removed from our systems.
• Usage Statistics — Aggregated and anonymized. These statistics cannot be traced back to individual users and may be retained indefinitely for analytics.
• Transcription History — Stored locally on your device only. We do not have access to your transcription history. You can clear it at any time from within the app.

8. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), secure authentication via Clerk, and minimal data collection practices. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your personal data and request a copy of what we hold.
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
• Delete your account and all associated personal data by contacting us at team@opusautomations.com.
• Export your transcription history from the desktop application at any time.
• Withdraw Consent for any data processing by discontinuing use of the service.

10. Children's Privacy

Loquent is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete it promptly.

11. International Users

Loquent is operated from the United States. If you are accessing the service from outside the United States, please be aware that your data may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States or other jurisdictions where our service providers operate. By using Loquent, you consent to such transfers.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you by updating the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, through in-app notifications or email. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
